On Sunday, New Zealand made history by winning the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 championship. Both the men’s and women’s T20 World Cup titles were New Zealand’s first. In Dubai on Sunday, the White Ferns crushed South Africa by a margin of 32 runs. In their second consecutive final, South Africa put New Zealand in to bat. Under pressure, Sophie Devine’s team flourished, posting an above-par score of 158/5. The Proteas were later held to 126/9 and were unable to win the championship once more.

Let’s talk about the enormous prize money that New Zealand received after winning the ICC trophy.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) declared earlier this year that the prize money for the winner of this Women’s T20 World Cup would have increased by 134%. Thus, New Zealand, the winners, received a substantial USD 2.34 million (Rs 19.6 crore) cash reward.

In addition, South Africa, the first runners-up, received a USD 1.17 million (Rs 9.8 crore) cash reward.

The ICC also revealed that the prize money for this season will go to the semi-finalists and the top three teams in the group stage, in addition to the champion and runners-up. Australia and the West Indies, the semi-finalists, received USD 675,000 (Rs 5.7 crore) each in accordance with that rule.

Although the group stage rankings are still pending, Team India is quite likely to finish at number six and earn Rs USD 270,000 (Rs 2.25 crore) in prize money after winning two of their last four games. All three of the top teams from the group stage will receive the same amount of money.

New Zealand cricket made history on Sunday when the White Ferns won the ICC trophy just hours after the team won their first Test match in India in 36 years.
