England vs Scotland: despite rain, Scotland hammered England
It was a sloppy start for England with the ball and missed fields which hampered their performance. In the fifth over Munsey went for a maximum and Buttlergot the wicket, but it called no ball with Wood overstepping.
England’s errors and tricky pitch allowed Scotland to reach 90 after 10 overs. At the end of the powerplay, Munsey hit a huge six and broke a solar panel adding two fours also coming on Jordan’s over, 24 runs.
England vs Scotland: Jos Buttler was confident for the win
After the post-match Jos said ” We were confident coming into the game. Obviously, they presented a tough challenge, there are no easy games but we were confident.
“It is a disappointment for everyone – both sides and the crowd. I think there were a couple of balls here and there that we needed to tighten up on but all in all with the conditions and the stops and starts and the constraints when we went back out, I thought we scrapped hard and we were confident of chasing that score down.”
“The reaction was good to that, we kept going. We just wanted to get it underway and have a full game but this is the situation we find ourselves in. Hopefully a dry day for the next one and we can get into the tournament.”
Scotland denied the chance of a shock victory over the defending champions
On that Michael Jones said, “Possibly if you’d asked us before the game ‘do you want a point?’ we might have taken it, but to take on England and be in that position, knowing we had a really good chance of winning, is really frustrating.”
“Scotland have been done by the rain a few times now at big tournaments. Matthew Mott thinks they were confident, we think we were confident, so it probably would have been a really good game for the spectators. We felt we were in a strong position, that’s why it’s so frustrating we didn’t get to finish.”
“On the prospect of England facing a reduced five-over thrash, before the game was abandoned, Jones added: “The game was more in our favor if it was shorter. We would have been in a strong position. We do what we’re told. In hindsight, it would have been nice to get a game in any way but those are the cards that were dealt.”
