This year’s PSL was a roller coaster event, full paisa wasool matches. The PSL 2024 Final showdown took place on 18th Mar, between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans. Both teams fight till their last breath, but with a 1% winning chance Islamabad United shocked the cricket world when they beat down Multan Sultans with just two wickets remaining.

PSL 2024 Final | Witnessed an unbelievably thrilling match between ISU & MS 

This was the 9th edition of the Pakistan Super League, PSL 2024. Pakistan Super League is a men’s Twenty-Twenty cricket league. Six popular cities from Pakistan participated in the title, which was first introduced in 2015.

This year PSL is more exciting and competitive compared to the previous year. Islamabad United and Multan Sultans qualified for the final showdown. 

Islamabad United was consistent in terms of knock-out matches, as they already won three PSL trophies(2016,2018,2024) under their name, including this year. 

On the other hand, Multan Sultans played their 7th edition of PSL. This franchise was first added in 2017 PSL. Multans won only one trophy in the 2021 PSL.

Toss- Multan Sultans won the toss, and elected to bat first.

Winning the toss always gives you an extra benefit in this kind of knockout match. Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bat first. That was a quite good decision, because in the final chasing score is a different mental pressure for any team. Multans almost succeeded in their planning as they set their target of 159 after losing nine wickets.

There was a very impressive bowling effort by Islamabad United, they continuously took wickets to build pressure.

PSL 2024 Final, First Innings::

After being elected to bat first Multans couldn’t set a big total on the board. The pitch looks too much slow as wickets are falling randomly. Batters couldn’t control the innings with their bat, though Multan Usman Khan played an anchor inning of 57(40) for his team.  No other batsman couldn’t stand at all in front of Islamabad United’s disciplined bowling.

Rizwan tried his best to capitalize his inning with a big captain knock, but he could only 26(26). After 10 over Multan Sultans was not even complete with 70 runs on the board, the run rate was so slow. Multan Sultans might be in trouble when they lost the big wicket of Usman Khan in 15.1.

But, Iftikhar-Ahmed came into the crease and played a very important inning of 32(26) runs, with his must-needed batting performance  Multan Sultans was somehow able to put in a fighting score of 159 after 20 overs.

Not only did Bowling Islamabad United perform well in the field also, through the first inning they threw their body to save runs and took some magnificent cates in the mid-wicket and long-on area.

PSL 2024 Final Showdown, Drama of Second Innings::

Drama and thrills started when Islamabad United came for bat, the target of 159 looked so easy for them. Openers Martin Guptill and Collin Munro tried to finish it in a hurry, as both the openers were looking aggressive from starting. But Multans strikes early with the first wicket of Munro. In just 36 runs Islamabad lost their first wicket.

 “With the one it comes two”  who said it said it very well.

and it proved as Islamabad lost their early two wickets after Munro’s dismissal. Guptil looks set on the crease, to build a partnership with Azam Khan, that was the turning point of the match. 

For fans from both sides was a sea-shaw match, because after taking 3 early wickets Multan made their so easy, but suddenly just one partnership took the match away from them. Undoubtedly this PSL 2024 final, was the most thrilling match in this season. 

The biting moment again came when Usama Mir took the wicket of well-set Azam Khan. Now Islamabad lost five wickets. NO wait! ait! it could be one wicket, yes in just a difference of seven runs Islamabad lost a wicket again. Now it was 128 for 6. I think something is still left yes, Multan’s bowler hunted Haider Ali, on the next over, and now it was 129 for 7, and with this Multan started celebrating as they were almost closer to winning their second title of 2024 PSL.

From this situation, it looked impossible to win for Islamabad, with just three wickets remaining.

PSL 2024 Last over drama::

In between Imad Wasim and Naseem Shah built a 30-run partnership for the 8th wicket, it’s still a record. They not only built a partnership but broke the hearts for among those Multan Sultans fans.
In the last over Islamabad needed 7 runs 5 balls, Naseem Shah swung his bat into the leg side and got four runs on it, still the work was not done yet, still they needed 3 runs to win. But he got caught out as he was not ready for the quick bouncer of Mohammad Ali.
Again the twist came, Islamabad still needed one run to win. With the last ball left there still might be the possibility of a Super over, or a boundary in the last ball.
All fielders came inside the circle, and Hunain Shah played the wide-length ball through the infield and yes this was the winning run for Islamabad United. They won their Third PSL title with this.

PSL 2024, Final In Brief::

Multan Sultans won the toss and elected to bat. They Put 159 target for Islamabad United.

Usman Khan 57(40), Iftikhar-Ahmed 32(20), highest scorer from Multan Sultans.

Imad Wasim 23-4-5, picked up five wickets for Islamabad United. Tymal Mills also picked up three wickets, 24-4-3.

In the second Innings,

Martin Guptil 50(32), is the only batsman to score a fifty on this PSL 2024 final. Azam Khan 30(22), Imad Wasim 19(17), and Naseem Shah 17(9) were enough to cross the winning line for Islamabad.
