James Anderson, the all-time leading wicket-taker in Test cricket for England, is rumored to be participating in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2025 season, which might mean a significant comeback for him in T20 cricket.
At least one MLC team is reportedly interested in the 42-year-old fast-bowling legend, with the possibility of a big contract on the table, according to reports from BBC Sport.
Following recent indications of a prospective return to white-ball cricket, Major League Cricket (MLC) has taken notice of James Anderson, the all-time leading wicket-taker in Test cricket for England, as a possible recruit for its 2025 season. According to BBC Sport, senior officials from at least one unidentified MLC team are investigating the possibility of the 42-year-old fast-bowling icon taking part in the expanding T20 competition in the US.
After collecting 704 Test wickets in his career, Anderson announced his retirement from international cricket and has now joined the England backroom staff as a fast-bowling coach.
But his remarks about perhaps going back to white-ball cricket have caught the attention of MLC, which has drawn a number of well-known figures, including luminaries like Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, and Australia skipper Pat Cummins.
If Anderson signs on, he might make about 1,35,000 euros (about Rs 1.49 crore) for a brief appearance in the league, which is expected to grow from 19 to 34 games in 2025, according to a BBC story.
Although Anderson has spent the last ten years concentrating on red-ball cricket, he has shown faith in his ability to produce in the shorter format. His last T20 encounter was in the T20 Blast in 2014, where he played for Lancashire.
Supported by powerful individuals like Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, MLC has made it apparent that it wants to entice the best English players to the league. Liam Plunkett, the champion of the World Cup, and Jason Roy, who signed a lucrative two-year contract of 3,00,000 euros with the Los Angeles Knight Riders, have both appeared in prior tournaments.
