India thrashed Ireland for an opening victory with 8 wickets and 45 balls remaining. Despite Kohli’s early wicket, Rohit, and Pant put India in the driver’s seat to secure their first win.
The pitch was being too much tricky as injured Rohit and Pant. India vs Ireland match will be remembered for this wicket as there was uneven bounce, unpredictable low-bounce, and tricky sideways movement as well.
Winning the toss gave an extra advantage to team India in this match, with the four fast bowlers India bowled out Ireland for 96 runs. Bumrah was so economical throughout his spell as he conceded only 6 runs and a maiden, including two wickets.

India vs Ireland:: Arshdeep strikes early for India
In today’s match, India played with four-seam bowlers. Overcast conditions, Uneven bounce, and slow outfield help India build pressure with good bowling. Arshdeep with the seam-up ball got help with uneven bounce and finished every ball in the keeper’s hands. Both Siraj and Arshdeep did the job very well swinging the ball outside and inside creating difficulty for Ireland’s batsmen.
Starting of third over Arshdeep with an uneven bounce in the length ball to get the wicket of Paul Stirling, who looking to hit the ball against Arshdeeo’s left-arm over angle. In the same over Arshdeep got his second wicket, Andy Balbirnie seemed totally clueless no movement on his legs and hands also, as a result, he bowled out, Ireland 9 for two wickets. Arshdeep was superb with the new ball and with these two wickets, India was on top.
This is an excellent pitch in New York. Provided the idea was to get the American audience hooked on to Test cricket disguised as T20. #INDvIRE #T20WorldCup

Wickets play the extra game for Team India
After four overs Rohit brought Bumrah into the attack, and wickets conditions seemed like a test match going on as Bumrah got the first maiden over in this T20 World Cup for India.
Hardik is back in form as he took 3
In a warm-up match against Bangladesh Hardik got two wickets and continued his form against Ireland. Without wasting any time Hardik ended the struggle of Lorcan Tucker with a wobble-seam ball but not quite too much up, Tucker did not judge the length and bowled out on Hardik’s over. Ireland was 28 for three after 6.5 overs.
This wicket from Hardik Pandya reminds me of wicket of Babar Azam by Hardik Pandya during Asia Cup 2023 👏#INDvsIRE #HardikPandya #RohitSharma #BabarAzam pic.twitter.com/mfDU2bj6Bx

India vs Ireland: six down for Ireland
Bumrah got the wicket of George Dockrell with a seam-up swing ball and joined the party with Haridk.
Indian Spinners picked up wickets
Nassau County International Cricket Stadium not only helped pace bowlers but also helped spinners taste the wicket. Rohit brought Axar before Jadeja and Axar did not disappoint as he picked up the 9th man for Ireland with caught and bowl on the no-strikers end.
That soft dismissal for Barry McCarthy, Axar’s ball was not a defensive or an attacking ball, seemed the ball stuck on the surface as he tried to push down the ground for a single.
Ireland just passed their Lowest Total
Gareth Delany and Josh Little showed some power-hitting ability in the end. Both batsmen are able to score some boundaries in Arshdeep’s over as they took 15 runs in an over.
Luck favors Rohit
The India vs Ireland match became a package of surprises as Rohit was not in control and dropped in the second slip as the fielder was standing out too much near of wickets. For the uneven bounce that ball goes fast through the wrist of the fielder. India was 22 after 2 overs.
Kohli failed to fire against Ireland
Kohli opened for the first time in the T20 World Cup with Rohit Sharma, his good average in IPL for RCB was the reason for the change in batting order. Both Rohit & Kohli wanted to play dominant cricket over this tough wicket. As a result, Kohli stepped down against Mark Adair for a cut shot over the cover but didn’t control the bounce and with an edge got out in deep.
Rohit broke many records of his own
After the last over of power-play Rohit with a four over backward point reached 4000 runs in T20I. Josh Little tried for a bouncer to Rohit Sharma with his bowling angle over the wicket, Rohit trimmed the ball for his 600 sixes in the T20 Internationals. Became the second batsman after Chris Gayle to hit the most sixes in the T20 international, just short of 47 sixes.
Though Rohit finished his fifty with some terrific shots got retired hurt while playing a pull shot on Josh Little’s over, the ball stuck on his right elbow. India was still 21 runs behind.
After Rohit retired-hurt, Josh Little smacked the left arm of Rishabh Pant but there was not much worry as he continued batting on the crease. Many cricket experts raise questions about this wicket and troll it as “The Test Pitch”. Rishabh himself trolled it by saying “Witch” pitch.
India vs Ireland: Sky Falls
To finish the game early Surya Kumar failed to judge White’s off-spin and in search of a six, he got out in the deep midwicket. SKY played four balls and scored only 2 runs of it.
Pant finish with a reverse scoop
In 12.3 overs Rishabh played an unconditional cricket shot, not a scoop or switch hit he went for the winning six, and India won the match comfortably. Looking forward India will face Pakistan on 9th June for their second win.
