India defeated Oman by six wickets, showcasing Ayush Badoni’s diverse skill set and securing a matchup with Afghanistan A in the semi-finals.
Ayush Badoni, a teenage player for the Lucknow Super Giants, demonstrated his variety of strokes as India defeated Oman by six wickets on Wednesday, securing a spot in the ACC Emerging Asia Cup semi-final against Afghanistan A.
With an all-win record at the end of their group B league matches, India A completed the goal of 141 in just 15.2 overs thanks to a brilliant 51 off 27 balls from Badoni. In addition to flawlessly performing the reverse slog sweep, the gifted Delhi right-hander’s footwork against spinners was outstanding as he moved down the track to loft a spinner over extra-cover for a six.
One of the Omani pacers was also back-cut behind square by him. He finished with a total of six fours and two sixes before being removed as India was only a few runs away from winning.
While captain Tilak Varma (36 not out off 30 balls) laid anchor at one end, allowing Badoni to steal the show, senior T20 team opener Abhishek Sharma blasted 34 off only 15 balls to start the chase in earnest.
In a previous match against the senior Oman squad, Varma deployed up to eight bowlers, five of whom each claimed a wicket.
Leg-spinner Rahul Chahar (0/20 in 4 overs) and left-arm spinner R Sai Kishore (1/21 in 4 overs) were crucial since between them they conceded just 41 runs in their eight overs during the middle phase.
