Chris Wood’s brace helped Nottingham Forest defeat Leicester City 3-1 in an exciting East Midlands derby. Former Forest manager Steve Cooper is currently in charge of the team.
This win puts Forest in fifth place in the Premier League and is their second straight victory, making Leicester’s problems worse as Cooper loses to his old team.
Chris Wood, a striker for New Zealand, scored twice in this much awaited match to demonstrate his scoring ability. In addition to regaining Forest’s lead following Jamie Vardy’s equalizer, Wood’s two goals increased his season tally to seven goals in nine games. Forest’s impressive play under manager Nuno Espirito Santo shows how well their choice to hire him following Cooper’s departure in December of last year worked out.
Ryan Yates took advantage of a defensive slip by Leicester in the 16th minute to give Forest the lead. After Facundo Buonanotte made a mistake and James Justin tried to clear the ball, Yates skillfully curled his shot into the bottom corner to give Forest the lead.
But Leicester responded right away. Jamie Vardy equalized the score with a traditional close-range goal in the 23rd minute after Harry Winks’ accurate cross.
Wood took charge in the second half. He showed off his skill by scoring a fantastic goal to give Forest the lead again only two minutes after the interval after completing a ball from Elliot Anderson. In the 60th minute, he headed in from close range following a long ball from Forest’s goalkeeper, Matz Sels, demonstrating his resolve once more. Wout Faes of Leicester miscalculated the bounce, allowing Wood to complete Forest’s triumph.
Cooper, who led Forest back to the Premier League after two years as manager before being fired, played his old team for the first time since moving to Leicester. He said, after giving the game some thought, that “it’s self-inflicted, no doubt about that…we made poor mistakes for the goals.”
With just one loss in nine league games under Nuno Espirito Santo, Forest has been on the rise. “Chris deserves his plaudits,” Nuno said, praising Wood’s commitment and work ethic. On the field, he gives it his all for us.
Chris Wood’s outstanding performance during Nottingham Forest‘s victory over Leicester solidified their spot in the top five of the Premier League. Forest is ready to keep rising as the season goes on, demonstrating that their managerial adjustments have been a key component of their success.
