Omar Marmoush Stuns Bayern Munich: Late Goal Keeps Bundesliga Title Race Wide Open
In the Bundesliga on Sunday, Eintracht Frankfurt held Bayern Munich to an exciting 3-3 draw thanks in large part to the contributions of Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush. In addition to igniting celebration among Frankfurt supporters, Marmoush’s late equalizer in injury time stopped Bayern from securing a two-point lead at the top of the league. Going into the international break, Bayern Munich leads RB Leipzig by a slim margin, solely due to goal differential.
On Sunday, Omar Marmoush, an Egyptian attacker, scored twice for Eintracht Frankfurt, including an equalizer in injury time, to secure a 3-3 draw and deny Bayern Munich a two-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga.
After RB Leipzig defeated the Red Bull team 1-0 at Heidenheim earlier in the day, Marmoush’s goal caused chaos in Frankfurt, guaranteeing that Bayern lead the team only on goal differential heading into the international break. Bayern was about to wrap up a 3-2 victory when Marmoush broke free in the fourth of six added minutes. The 25-year-old took advantage of Bayern’s careless defense to win an exciting match.
Frankfurt has extended its unbeaten streak to seven games across all competitions under coach Dino Toppmoeller with 13 points, just one point behind the joint leaders.
After Thomas Mueller displayed excellent awareness to flick the ball back to the Korean defender from a corner, allowing the defender to shoot into the top of the net, Min-Jae Kim, a central defender for Bayern, scored the first goal.
Even though it was Kim’s sole goal in his Bayern career, Frankfurt’s first real attack of the match, which came on the counterattack and went entirely against the flow of play, proved to be too much for Bayern to handle.
Ansgar Knauff succeeded, slipping the ball between Aleksandar Pavlovic’s legs to find Marmoush, who dribbled past Manuel Neuer with his second attempt after his first touch freed him from Joshua Kimmich’s pursuit.
Frankfurt took a 2-1 lead after turning the tide of the match after 13 minutes. Marmoush took the lead as a provider, selecting Hugo Ekitike, and the Frenchman completed the task with a clinical touch.
With eight goals in six games this season, Marmoush is three goals ahead of Harry Kane of Bayern Munich as the highest scorer in the Bundesliga.

After Kane had tipped Raphael Guerreiro’s pass into Olise’s path, the Frenchman, who was born in London, found the bottom corner from the edge of the box. Marmoush then made sure that the points were shared.
Mueller claimed Bayern ought to have prevailed.
“We would probably win 13 out of 15 such games,” he stated. “It was a pleasure to see how we tied down the opponent, because we had a lot of chances to score.”
Leipzig’s victory at Heidenheim earlier in the day put them well ahead of the competition at the top of the standings. After the club kept a clean sheet for the fourth straight game in the league, Ikoma Openda, the solitary goal scorer, commented about the unity of the team.
Together, we have a lot of strength. Our goal is to demonstrate our strength, unity, and team spirit on the field. We have demonstrated that from the beginning of the season, Openda said to DAZN.
Heidenheim, who started the match in eighth place, vexed Leipzig for extended stretches of time.
The only time Heidenheim goalkeeper Kevin Mueller had to come off the bench came towards the conclusion of the half, when Xavi Simons broke through the hosts’ defense but was unable to connect properly, allowing Mueller to smother him from behind.
Just before the hour, though, Leipzig found another gear and broke through the Heidenheim defense.
The mastermind was 19-year-old Norwegian Antonio Nusa, who perfectly timed a pass to openda, who took it in stride and fired in at the near post.
A few minutes from time, Openda—who also scored the game’s winning goal when these clubs met in April—struck the post, and Leipzig had to withstand some last-minute pressure from Heidenheim to win the points.
Ermedin Demirovic, a cheap substitute for Stuttgart, scored an equalizer in the 100th minute to deprive Hoffenheim in the penultimate Bundesliga match before the international break. However, the lost points prevent Stuttgart from finishing in the top six.
Hoffenheim’s advantage was granted by French defender Valentin Gendrey in the closing minute of the first half, but the visitors were unable to hold on for a crucial three points as Demirovic’s late penalty was saved, but the Bosnian scored on the rebound.
