Mumbai created history by winning their 15th Irani Cup title and snapping a 27-year drought, all because to Tanush Kotian’s tenacious play.
On the last day in Lucknow, a first-inning lead against Rest of India was the key to the historic victory. Mumbai’s final Irani Cup victory was in the 1997–98 campaign. The domestic titans have since advanced to the finals eight times but have failed each time, with the most recent appearance occurring in the 2015–16 campaign.
After scoring 64 runs in the first innings and coming back to bat on 20, Tanush Kotian was still undefeated after hitting 114 off 150 balls, including 10 fours and a six.
Mumbai won the Irani Cup for the fifteenth time on Saturday because to Tanush Kotian’s tenacious unbroken hundred and their first-inning lead over the rest of India. It was the fifth and final day of play in Lucknow. Mumbai last won the Irani Cup during the 1997–1998 season, which was 27 years ago. The domestic powerhouse has since made eight additional final appearances without winning, with the most recent one occurring in the 2015–16 season.
Mumbai declared their second innings at 329 for eight, giving them an overall advantage of 450 runs. Mumbai began the last day at 153 for six after the previous night.
After scoring 64 runs in the first innings and coming back to bat on 20, Kotian was still undefeated at 114 off 150 balls, with 10 fours and a six.
The captain of Rest of India, Ruturaj Gaikwad, clasped hands with his opposite number, Ajinkya Rahane, at the same time, signaling the draw and victory for Mumbai, the reigning Ranji Trophy champions, knowing it would be futile to chase 451 in just over a session.
No. 10 Mohit Avasthi provided solid support for Kotian, who displayed incredible maturity in leading Mumbai’s innings following the early removal of Sarfaraz Khan (17) and Shardul Thakur (2).
At that point Mumbai were 171 for seven.
Avasthi helped Kotian add crucial 158 runs for the ninth wicket, staying undefeated at 51 off 93 balls with four fours and a six.
Saransh Jain, an off-spinner, claimed six wickets (6/111) but his efforts were in vain as the inevitable continued.
Mumbai captain Rahane was naturally happy. “It feels incredible to win the trophy after 27 years.” It was a wicket of red dirt. Tanush Kotian is my choice because of his performances in both this match and the previous season.
“Everyone who plays cricket in Mumbai, from maidan cricketers to everyone else, owns the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup.” Sarfaraz’s double hundred during Mumbai’s opening innings earned him the title of player of the match.

“I adhere to the procedure meticulously and prepared for the competition beforehand. Gaining experience from playing on many fields is one way. You learn how to play on various types of pitches.
“I can improve every aspect of my game and have a lot to learn from being around the Test team,” Sarfaraz remarked.
Ajinkya Nayak, president of the Mumbai Cricket Association, praised the team on their victory.
“Congratulations on winning the Irani Cup, Mumbai Team! Mumbai showed remarkable guts and commitment once more, according to Nayak.
