The 2012 Asia Cup between India and Bangladesh was significant for a couple of reasons. Firstly, Ban beat India for the very first time in Asia Cup’s history. Secondly, they chased down India’s target like a tracer bullet, in a very dominant way, and they felt the Indian bowlers in tears. Bangladesh Chased the target with five wickets left.

Why India didn’t play the 2012 Asia Cup Final?
Well, the defending champion was the best team from Asia, among the other teams like Bangladesh, Pakistan & and Sri Lanka to win the 2012 Asia Cup title again. But, despite being very low-performance as per the standard of India was not enough to hold the title. In the 2012 Asia Cup India finished in the third position with 8 points, and a very cheap net run rate.
For the very first time Indian fans pray for the Sri Lankan team to win against Bangladesh. It was very important to beat Bangladesh, otherwise, India will not qualify for the final. Cricket fans wanted to see the ultimate clash again Ind vs Pak in a Final-showdown. But, it became just a wish as Bangladesh beat Sri Lanka.
Later in the 2012 Asia Cup, India beat Pakistan with Virat’s master inning of 183 runs but was not enough to qualify for the final.
No doubt Bangladesh played good cricket, they kept their promise to the Country. Bangladesh needing a handful of runs to win, the atmosphere inside the stadium reached fever pitch. Every boundary and every single was met with thunderous applause, while Indian fans watched in disbelief as their team struggled to break through the Bangladeshi resistance.
Revisiting History: Bangladesh’s Triumph Over India in the 2012 Asia Cup
On 16th March, after defeating Sri Lanka, India played against host member team Bangladesh. Cricket fans called the “Tigers” because they believed the Bangladesh Cricket team would be the champion of the 2012 Asia Cup.
Though Bangladesh failed to win the 2012 Asia Cup, their prayer worked against India as well. Bangladesh shocked the whole world by defeating India with just five wickets remaining and going a step ahead for the 2012 Asia Cup Champion.
The match started, and India’s top order batted well enough to score of 189. This match will remember not only Bangladesh but also the “God of Cricket” Sachin Tendulkar set a world record of 100/100 in international cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar groomed his inning really well with youngsters like Virat Kohli, and Suresh Raina. Both youngsters played good supportive innings. Sachin Tendulkar Scored 111 of 147 balls.
Some Cricket criticized this inning by saying it was a “selfish cricketing Knock”. Some of them blamed Sachin Tendulkar for India’s defeat against Bangladesh, in the 2012 Asia Cup.
What do you think Was Sachin’s slowest inning of 100(147) only the reason for India’s defeat against Bangladesh?
In that match, Sachin was the only player who scored a hundred for Team India. Alongside India lost the match not for defending the total, not in Chasing the total. 289 was not a bad score in ODI cricket. If anyone balmed Sachin for his inning then they should blame Gautam Gambhir also because of only 11(16).
Cricket is a team game, a team will win only if all players play like a team. In the 2012 Asia Cup, why no one didn’t talk about India’s bowling performance? Indian bowlers were not to bowl good deliveries, and also a lack of disciplined bowling. As a live example, Irfan Pathan Bowled horrible full tosses in the end.
The bowlers were complacent and I would say everyone took Bangladesh very lightly.
I didn’t find any point in saying the “Cricket God” was selfish.
The Umpiring Controversy in 2012 Asia cup
Bangladesh built a good partnership after losing their first wicket in a hurry. Tamim Iqbal and Jaharul Islam played really well like a mature batsman. Both of them scored fifty-plus runs, Jahural made his maiden ODI fifty with just 64 balls, which was quicker than Tamim Iqbal. After their dismissal, Shakib Al Hasan came to bat. As we he is also a very well-known all-rounder in cricket history. Shakib wanted to finish the match on his own, and that’s why he played some aggressive cricketing shots from the beginning.
on 44.4 over Ravichandran Ashwin trapped him with his spin brilliance, as Ms Dhoni with quick hands stumped Shakib Al Hasan. But, it seemed Shakib’s foot was on the line, everyone couldn’t believe when he gave OUT, because it was not clear enough to make a call, The Third Umpire might have taken some time to discuss, but everything happened in a hurry.
Shakib was not in the mood to go back and was not happy as well. The entire Stadium couldn’t believe the decision given Third Umpire. There was enough doubt on that decision. Third umpire Ruchira Palliyagurugewillb remembered as well.
Shakib scored 49 of 31 balls. Undoubtedly he played a winning knock for Bangladesh and left the team almost in a winning condition from there they can win easily.
In the end, Bangladesh crossed the finish line with just four balls to spare, securing a historic victory over India. The scenes of jubilation that followed were a testament to the sheer joy and pride felt by every Bangladeshi cricket fan. It was a moment of validation for a team that had long been overshadowed by its more illustrious counterparts.
